EdgeCortix Proposes an Edge AI Solution for Defense, Highlighting New SAKURA-II-Equipped Modules from Unigen

EdgeCortix showcased its latest energy-efficient edge AI technologies at NexTech Week [Spring] AI & Artificial Intelligence EXPO 2026 in Tokyo, highlighting how its SAKURA-II AI accelerator platform enables low-latency AI inference for defense, aerospace, industrial, and embedded applications. The demonstrations focused on bringing advanced AI processing directly to edge devices, reducing dependence on cloud infrastructure while maintaining high performance.

A key demonstration featured an enhanced YOLO-based object detection model capable of tracking both the position and orientation of objects. Unlike conventional object detection systems that use fixed horizontal or vertical bounding boxes, the EdgeCortix model continuously rotates the bounding box to match an object’s real-world orientation. This provides more accurate tracking and analysis of moving targets, such as ships, vehicles, or aircraft.

By combining object detection with orientation estimation, the technology improves situational awareness and image analysis for defense, surveillance, and autonomous systems. EdgeCortix also demonstrated multimodal AI applications, including customizable object detection, visual scene understanding with text-based video descriptions, and low-latency generative AI running locally on a Raspberry Pi equipped with a SAKURA-II M.2 module, showcasing practical edge AI deployments across manufacturing, industrial automation, and defense environments.

The exhibition further highlighted the growing SAKURA-II ecosystem through newly announced accelerator products from Unigen, including Unigen AI modules and Poundcake server platform. Delivering up to 1920 TOPS of AI inference performance while significantly reducing power consumption compared to traditional GPU-based systems, these solutions demonstrate increasing demand for scalable, high-performance, and energy-efficient AI acceleration across edge, embedded, and enterprise computing environments.
